The favourite whisky of Captain Haddock (of Tintin fame) is distilled on the bonny bonny banks of Glasgow’s local beach resort. A fire at the distillery in 2000 caused so much whisky to leak into the River Leven that firemen tackling the blaze found themselves pumping cask-strength spirit back onto the flames. Just a few yards over the ‘Highland Line’ that divides Lowland from Highland malts (and carrying characteristics of both styles), the distillery itself is testament to the legacy of post-war industrial Scotland: founded in 1965 on the site of a disused dye factory in the heart of industrial Dunbartonshire, today it is the only distillery that produces both malt and grain whisky at the same site.
Official Bottling of Loch Lomond, distilled 1966, bottled 2011.
