Blair Athol- Blair Athol Single Malt Whisky

The majority of Blair Athol distillery’s production goes into Bell’s, one of Scotland’s best-selling blends.  It became well-known as a single malt as part of Diageo’s now discontinued Flora & Fauna range, and a selection of independently bottled expressions have kept it on the radar of malt fans ever since - its bold Highland spice paired with a hefty kick of dry peat smoke is an old-school style only too rare today.  The distillery provides a popular tour and visitor centre, based around its role as the ‘spiritual home’of Bell’s, and is based in Pitlochry, not far from Edradour: the village of Blair Atholl, which gives the whisky its name, is in fact eight miles away.  It is home to the famous Atholl Highlanders, the UK’s last ‘private army’.

Most of the whisky distilled at Blair Athol that goes into Bell’s is matured in bourbon casks, while the Flora & Fauna 12-year-old - the only official bottling - established it as a bold sherried dram par excellence and set the theme for most independent releases of this firm cult favourite.
