Situated in the shadow of the UK’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis distillery was founded in 1825 by ‘Long John’McDonald, a descendent of the ruler of the ancient Kingdom of Argyll. It has come a long way from old Highland romance: in 1989, the distillery was acquired by Nikka, manufacturers of one of Japan’s best loved whiskies. To this day, Ben Nevis is one of the top 10 highest sellers in the single malt section of the Japanese market.
Ben Nevis was one of the first distilleries to experiment with continuous distillation, producing both malt and grain whisky at the same site: this lead to the production of the ‘Nevis Dew’blend (a.k.a. Dew of Ben Nevis). Its single malt production possesses a distinctive toffee flavour, with an appropriate - given its name and location - boldness and enormity.
